Jobs as Control engineer
Control engineers make sure a system stays stable and still responds quickly. They model plants, design controllers, check robustness against disturbances and parameter variations, and then bring the result onto the real machine – where it usually behaves differently than in simulation. In Switzerland this expertise often sits in the development departments of drive, measurement and medical technology manufacturers and in research-oriented industry. Typical topics are positioning and motion control, temperature and pressure control in process plants, vibration damping and, increasingly, model predictive methods. Day-to-day work is more experimental than the mathematics suggests: system identification on the real setup, measurement series, matching model to measurement, fine-tuning during commissioning. Common are MATLAB and Simulink, identification tools and code generation for PLCs or microcontrollers. With try&hire you first watch a video profile, then talk for thirty minutes and then work together. The engineers are employed via staff leasing; contract, salary and insurance run through us. After a few months, both sides decide on a permanent position. In control engineering this makes particular sense, because the quality of a design only shows on the machine.
