Your introduction video

This is where companies hear you speak for the first time. Plan for 60 to 120 seconds; the upload does not accept more than 180 seconds. A phone is perfectly sufficient.

An example

This is what an introduction video can look like. A phone is enough, and yours may be longer.

A script in four parts

This order fills about 90 seconds and leaves you some room to spare.

  1. 15 sec.

    Who you are

First name, your discipline, how long you have been working in it. One sentence is enough: I am Anna, an automation technician, for nine years now.

  2. 25 sec.

    What you really work on

The tasks that suit you, and the systems, tools and methods you use to solve them. Name the technology, not the employer.

  3. 35 sec.

A project you are proud of

A concrete example in three steps: starting point, your contribution, result. Give a figure if you have one. Describe the company neutrally, for example as a plant manufacturer with around 300 employees.

  4. 15 sec.

    What you are looking for

Role, environment and when you are available. Also say what you are not looking for; that saves both sides a call.

Read the script aloud once before you record. You do not need to memorise it: companies want to hear you, not a lecture.

How to film

Landscape or portrait

Both are fine. The player displays 16:9 and 9:16 correctly, so hold the phone whichever way is easier for you.

A quiet room

No music, no colleagues in the background. A room with a carpet or curtain sounds much better than an empty meeting room.

Daylight from the front

Sit facing the window. Light from behind turns you into a silhouette, and a ceiling lamp on its own casts harsh shadows.

Prop up your phone

Stand the phone on a stack of books instead of holding it. The camera belongs at eye level, not at knee level.

Check the sound first

Record ten seconds and listen to them. A slightly soft picture will be forgiven, poor sound will not.

iPhone: set the format to Most Compatible

Before recording, open Settings, then Camera and Formats, and choose Most Compatible. Otherwise the iPhone saves in HEVC format, which some Windows browsers cannot play — and the company then sees a black picture.

No company names

Caution

Do not mention company names and do not show any logos.

Your profile stays anonymous until you agree to a Match; a named employer or a visible logo removes this protection immediately.

  • No names of employers, including former ones.
  • No client or project names that lead to a client.
  • No logos in the picture: mug, T-shirt, notepad, poster in the background.
  • No badge and no lanyard around your neck.

Instead, describe your employer by industry, region and approximate number of employees. That tells companies enough, and they only learn your name once you agree.

You can record again at any time

A new video only replaces the old one once it has been reviewed. Until then, your previous video stays online, so your profile is never left without a video.

Create a profile

You record the video once your profile is set up. It is optional, but it helps.
