Jobs as Embedded systems engineer

Embedded systems engineers write the software that runs directly on the hardware – where memory is scarce, timing matters and a crash cannot simply be fixed with a restart. They work with microcontrollers, drivers, bus systems and real-time systems, sitting between electronics and application. In Switzerland medical technology is a major employer, along with sensor technology, drives and devices for laboratories and industry. The work is rarely pure programming. It includes bringing up new hardware, measurements with logic analysers and oscilloscopes, power consumption optimisation, bootloaders and update concepts, and a growing share of security requirements. In regulated areas there is also documentation for approval, for example to IEC 62304. Common are C and C++, increasingly Rust, along with FreeRTOS or Zephyr, CAN, SPI, I2C and static analysis tools. A good sign is when someone has already taken a device through regulatory approval. Through try&hire you watch a video profile, talk for thirty minutes and then work together. The engineers are employed via staff leasing. After a few months, both sides decide whether a permanent position follows – you based on the collaboration, the engineers based on the tasks and the team.
