Jobs as Civil engineer
Civil engineers are responsible for structures that have to last for decades. They carry out structural analysis, plan foundations, coordinate trades and oversee execution on site. In Switzerland the SIA standards set the technical framework, and permit practice differs from canton to canton – local knowledge is therefore a real factor. The field is broad: building construction, civil works, bridges, geotechnics, hydraulic engineering, plus the refurbishment of existing buildings, which now makes up a considerable share of the work. Day-to-day work alternates between calculation, planning, tendering and the construction site, and a large part of the responsibility lies in coordination: a structure rarely stands alone. Common are structural analysis programs and FEM, BIM tools such as Revit, Tekla or Allplan, and knowledge of construction sequencing and cost estimation. With try&hire you watch a video profile, talk for thirty minutes and then work together. The engineers are employed via staff leasing. This is practical for project peaks: you tie an assignment to a project without immediately creating a permanent post. After a few months, both sides decide whether a permanent position follows.
