Jobs as Materials engineer

Materials engineers answer the questions that arise when something does not hold. Why did this component crack after eighteen months, why is this weld seam corroding, why does the third batch behave differently from the first two. They work with microscopy, mechanical testing, analytics and heat treatment – and with the patience that failure analysis demands. In Switzerland the discipline is closely linked to medical technology, watchmaking and precision manufacturing, tool and mould making, and coating technology. Frequent topics are titanium and stainless steel alloys, surfaces, wear and biocompatibility. Day-to-day work has two sides: preventive, when it comes to material selection, specifications and supplier approvals; reactive, when a failure has to be investigated. Both require careful documentation, because the results often have to stand up before customers or authorities. With try&hire you first watch a video profile, then talk for thirty minutes and then work together. The engineers are employed via staff leasing; contract, salary and insurance run through us. After a few months, both sides decide whether a permanent position follows. For materials questions this route makes sense, because the quality of an analysis only really shows in the second or third case.
