Jobs as Chemical engineer
Chemical engineers take reactions from the laboratory into production. Scale-up is the difficult part: what works cleanly in the flask behaves differently in the reactor, because heat removal, mixing and residence time suddenly matter. In Switzerland this mainly concerns fine chemicals, active ingredient production and speciality manufacturers. Day-to-day work combines reaction engineering, design, safety assessment and support for ongoing production. A large part of the work is the question of what happens when something goes wrong: runaway reactions, pressure relief, releases. Good engineers calculate the incident before it happens and know the limits of their own assumptions. Common are reaction calorimetry, process simulation, HAZOP and protection concept work, knowledge of major accident regulations and experience with the transition from laboratory through pilot plant to production. With try&hire you watch a video profile, talk for thirty minutes and then work together. The engineers are employed via staff leasing; contract, salary and insurance run through us. After a few months, both sides decide on a permanent position – you based on the collaboration, the engineers based on the tasks, the team and the leadership.
