Sales engineer (technical sales)

In Switzerland the role is common in machine and plant engineering, automation, medical technology and among suppliers to the pharmaceutical industry – often with customers in several language regions and abroad. Day-to-day work is half engineering and half conversation. An enquiry becomes a specification, the specification becomes a design, and the design becomes a quote that still holds during execution. Good sales engineers understand the customer's application in detail and say early what will not work. Common are an engineering degree or a technician diploma, experience in design, commissioning or project management, CRM systems, requirement specifications, quote calculation and confident negotiation in several languages.
