Jobs as Design & development engineer

Design and development engineers join a product early and stay with it for a long time. They translate a requirement into geometry, select materials and joining methods, define tolerances and take the whole thing through trials and series release. In Switzerland they often work in small development teams in which the same person is responsible for concept, detail and trials. The work is less drawing-driven than the title suggests. A large part consists of comparing variants, coordinating with purchasing and suppliers, cost analysis and documentation. Good engineers recognise early which requirement makes the product expensive and put it up for discussion instead of simply meeting it. Typical are CAD systems such as SolidWorks, NX, CATIA or Creo, PDM and PLM environments, tolerance calculation, DFM and DFA analysis, and knowledge of standards. Experience with series ramp-ups is a clear differentiator from pure concept work. With try&hire you watch a video profile, talk for thirty minutes and then work together. The engineers are employed via staff leasing; contract, salary and insurance run through us. After a few months, both sides decide on a permanent position. This makes particular sense in design: whether someone documents cleanly and manages changes traceably only becomes clear over several iterations.
