Jobs as Industrial / OT security engineer

Industrial and OT security engineers protect networks in which a restart is not an option. A production plant cannot be patched on a Tuesday afternoon, many components are older than the threats they have to withstand, and availability carries more weight than in the office world. In Switzerland this concerns operators of critical infrastructure as well as pharmaceutical and food production. Day-to-day work begins with an inventory: which devices talk to which, over which protocols. Then come segmentation, remote access, monitoring and an incident response plan that still holds when the office network is unreachable. Much of this is coordination with maintenance and with plant suppliers. Common are IEC 62443 as a framework, network segmentation, passive monitoring in the production network, protocols such as OPC UA, Modbus and Profinet, and experience with vulnerability assessment in plants that cannot be shut down.
